Using PHOTOMOD capabilities and GeoEye-1 accuracy for safeguarding the Sabratha and Leptis Magna archaeological sites.
In 2009 Thetis S.p.A., Spacedat s.r.l. and Marco Polo Storica Ltd realized project of safeguarding the Leptis Magna* and Sabratha** archaeological sites. The main activities were: data collection
both geographical and meteorological, on site survey of Wadi Lebda river, generation of a three dimensional Digital Elevation Model (DEM) over a over an area of 100 km2, design of the
hydraulic re-arrangement of the final stretch of the Wadi Lebda.
*Leptis Magna was a prominent city of the Roman Empire. Its ruins are located in Al Khums, Libya, 130 km east of
Tripoli, on the coast where the Wadi Lebda meets the sea. The site is one of the most spectacular and unspoiled
Roman ruins in the Mediterranean.
**Sabratha was the westernmost of the «three cities» of Tripolis, was established, perhaps about 500 BC.
